Thanks to Madonna, Flashdance and the 1990’s, crop tops are a re-occurring staple piece in the ever-evolving fashion cycle. Crop tops come in a variety of structures, lengths and graphics that have lead to much controversy during the earlier days of modern society. Though more widely accepted today, there’s a whole new controversy being concocted- mens crop tops.
I personally condone the crop top because of its versatility and the feminine, seductive appeal it omits. So how are males pulling off the look?
The most current case of the mens crop top is worn by Kid Cuddi at this years Coachella music festival. Cudi put on a bold performance and showed individuality at such a renowned event. Cudi’s crop top debut received numerous amounts of negative and positive feedback, either way making a statement and becoming a trend.
Cudi isn’t the first male to wear crop tops. Before him, the Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy award winning artist, Prince rocked crop tops in the ’80’s. Calvin Klein later included male crop tops in his spring/summer 2011 collection at Milan Fashion Week, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering Klein has always been eccentric with the concept of sexuality. Designer Astrid Andersen also incorporated the male crop top into his spring/summer 2014 collection during London Fashion Week.
I’m curious to see other mens fashion trends as summer is finally approaching
What do you think about the mens crop top? Let us know!
